The Grey-hooded Attila is a slim bird with a powerful curved beak and serious expression. It is 20 cm long and weighs approx. 43 g. It has a reddish body, cinnamon coloured tail and a hood that is completely grey. Its beak is bone coloured, its eyes brown and it legs dark in colour. Juveniles in contrast have a black beak. |

The Grey-hooded Attila's voice is very varied. Its song is a prolonged and increasing sequence of chanting whistles that end with a deep note. When excited the bird moves its tail slowly forward and upward without actually opening it.

| Habitat: |
This species inhabits the forests of lowlands and mountains anywhere from the tree tops to the ground. It searches for its food on the ground by tapping on rotten wood.

Inhabits Brazil's coastal forest from Southern Bahia to Santa Catarina in the northeast. |
| Biology: |
This species of bird is often found in small groups and feeds on insects (such as ants and butterflies), small amphibians and fruits. Their nests are solidly built and shaped like flat and spacious cups. The sides are built from fine roots and moss and the cup is lined with fine leaves. They are built in the depressions of hills or in tree hollows that are approx. 20 cm deep and hidden by the vegetation. The female lays 4 reddish eggs with grey-red and whitish-blue speckles.
