73 cm long and weighs approx. 1,200 g. Its plumage is a dark green to bronze colour. Its head, neck, back and breast feature fine white stripes. The throat is red and is featherless while its legs are a blackish colour.

Guans distinguish themselves by the unusual and loud noises created by the flapping of their wings. It can for example be heard when the bird flies from one tree top to another. These noises are described as instrumental sounds. The species also blurts out more vigorous and raspy calls. A melodious and rising melody can also be heard as well as a loud, hoarse alarm call that is similar to barking or a cough.

The Dusky-legged Guan likes to inhabit tree tops but can also be found in fruit plantations at the edge of woods. |
| Distribution: |
This species is widespread across Central and Southern Brazil (from Espírito Santo to Rio Grande do Sul), Bolivia, Paraguay, Northern Argentina and Uruguay.

| Biology: |
Dusky-legged Guans live in small groups. They feed on fruits, leaves and seedlings, but also catch snails, grasshoppers, small frogs and other small animals. It is a monogamous bird. The male feeds the female by turning around and lowering its head. To nest, it sits downs on branches and crushes the leaves while sitting in order to build a platform. It lays 2 to 3 large, all white and smooth eggs. The incubation period is 28 days and it has 2 clutches a year.
